Title:
SP Transfer Run
Description:
Southern Pacific C630 unit 3143 and 3144 were on their way from the SP’s
AVONDALE YARD
to the New Orleans Public Belt’s
COTTON WAREHOUSE YARD
with the regular afternoon transfer run. The train was operating over the NOPB along the Mississippi River, and was behind Audubon Park. The SP assigned seven of these big Alcos (3140-3146) to New Orleans for transfer service between early 1973 and late 1977. (approximate date of photo)

Title:
An Alco Escher
Description:
This is the view on August 6, 1978 from the extremely rickety and ancient steel footbridge over the Southern Pacific's small Bull Ring Yard in downtown Los Angeles, a second-generation diesel lover's dream. In this shot there are a U50, eight U25Bs, a C628, two C630s, two S6s, an RSD12 and a C415. Although the majority of these engines were sent to the torch, two of these units still survive today, RSD12 #2954 is at the Orange Empire Railroad Museum after a stint with Metropolitan Stevedore and S6 #1272 runs in Quebec for the Asbestos & Danville as their #57.
