Title:
PRR 3536, H-9S, 1936
Description:
WB. Here is an image of an official photo that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 October 1936. Shown here in the Pennsylvania Railroad's Juniata Shops complex is engine #3536, an H-9S built here in October of 1913 and retired in September of 1955 after 42 years of service. While suspended by a pair of gantry cranes, it's being lowered into a vat of lye. The lye will dissolve accumulated grease and other gunk, making it easier to perform periodic maintenance. William E. Burket Collection.
