Bruce Kellett	General	Hello David,Rio Tinto Iron Ore do not at this time employ DPU locomotives.Manned bank engines are used up in the mines and are detached enroute and train run with head end power alone.Ore cars are "married" in pairs by a solid drawbar.The master car is equipped with the air brake control valve and the slave cars airbrake functions are relayed from the master car.This is why 234 car trains can run without any DPUs.There are only 117 auxilliary reservoirs to charge.The slave car is fitted with a rotory coupler for train dumping.A slave car is identified by the end of the car painted yellow or by a yellow dot.	2/14/2010 7:29:30 AM

Rio Tinto Iron Ore GE ES44DCi # 8104
Two GE ES44DCi and a GE Dash-9 power up the gradient out of Western Creek with 234 empty cars trailing.Even though not loaded the train weighs in excess of 4000 metric tonnes and is nearly 2.4 kilometers long.
