Here is page seven of a seven-page article by Tom Hanna entitled "Altoona Works." It was published originally in the January 1946 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 26. Photo Caption: "Freight cars are put together on a regular assembly line. Here is the beginning. The main frame for a gondola car has been put together upon a fixture, made up of long steel girders fitted with stops against which the various parts of the frame are located. When finished it is hoisted off the fixture, put on trucks, and started down the line." The names of these 12th Street Car Shopmen are not recorded. |
